Magnification Numerical Aperture Working Distance Cover Glass Immersion Field of View Lateral Resolution Depth of Field Maximum Slope
Magnifying power of the objective Sine of the half-angle of the objective acceptance cone, NA Distance from the end of the objective to the test surface when focused or to the cover glass bottom for cover glass corrected objectives Thickness of the cover glass for witch the objective compensates the induced aberrations Objectives specially designed for indicated liquid filling the air gap between object and objective Square imaged area of the test part Optical resolution of the imaging system given by the Sparrow criteria Thickness of the specimen that is acceptably sharp at a given focus level Maximum slope angle of the specimen for which information can be collected. For reflection configured microscopes, the specimen is in air if no in the immersion medium. For transmission configured microscopes, the specimen is in air if no immersion medium is indicated. The maximum slope depends on the specimen’s refractive index. The given values have been calculated for a sample being laid face down with a flat bottom interface perpendicular to the optical axis and with a sample refractive index of 1.5. * slope angle not limited by the objective, but by the total reflection of the incident beam on the interface.
