Magnifying power of the objective

For reflection configured microscopes, the specimen is in air if no in the immersion medium.
For transmission configured microscopes, the specimen is in air if no immersion medium is indicated. The maximum slope depends on the specimen’s refractive index. The given values have been calculated for a sample being laid face down with a flat bottom interface perpendicular to the optical axis and with a sample refractive index of 1.5.
